Balancing Stones: In Search of Yamabico
It is said that the trees and forests of the deep mountains of Japan are inhabited by Yamabiko. These mountain spirits are often heard but never seen. Sometimes one hears a faint echo that bounces back with more delay than it should, or that returns slightly transformed from the original sound and carries for long distances.
These photographs are an offering to the spirits that inhabit the giant trees, mountain scapes, and gardens that constitute the timeless beauty of Japan.
