China

I have visited China twice, first in 1992 as part of a delegation of Graphic Designers, and then again in 2011 I was invited to exhibit my Delta photographs at a group show in Zhengzhou titled “Another America”.

In 2011 when I found myself in Beijing a decade later, I was stunned by the transformation China had experienced. The new had no resemblance to the old China I has seen a decade earlier.

These photographs are a document to that new China on the cross roads. With ambivalence I tried to embrace the loss of the magic of the past. So much so, that I asked a taxi driver to take me to the edge of the capital Beijing, to see if anything of what I had seen a decade earlier remained. With astonishment I found a community of people living in houses made from old recycled books.
